In my journey through the world
Over land and over seas
I see different cultures
And different peoples ways.
I was born where the son
Never sets and never rises
I was born where the heat
Is like a second skin.
Children crying on the streets
Automobiles are making noise
The land is growing dry, spirit sying low
My forefathers are calling me, never tired never weakened.
The pride in me is bursting loose - I am an African boy.
On the farm my father called my down behind a tree
He said postrate at my feet, and say A little prayer
Then he told me of the stories of my brave ancestors.
He said; 'Lookk into my eyes, you were born to be great'
In the evening going home
behind my father with a hoe
Listening to the songs of the bird
Whispers of the night.
I sang;
Seven Goats, Seven Beads, Seven Cowries, Seven Nuts.
Sven Lifes, thats what I've got, I am an African boy.
In the night my mother called my
Down into her hut.
She said; 'Lay upon my bossom and say a little prayer'
Then she said I shouild go forward never looking back.
"The spirits are with you and you will never fail"
So I go into the world, in the deeps into the wild
In the market place I dance, the sounds of Bata
Dancing; Seven Jumps, Seven Wriggles, Seven Cowries, Seven Nuts.
Seven Lifes, thats what I have got - I am an African Boy!
Over seas, over land, over mountain, in the wilds, I'll be brave and I'll be strong - I AM AN AFRICAN BOY!
